Upperclassmen students, recent graduates, and early professionals have the unique opportunity to study theater administration and Broadway touring in a hybrid 14-week paid apprenticeship in Atlanta from January-April 2026. The program ends with a 4-day trip to New York where apprentices will network, attend seminars, and see shows on The Great White Way. Spring 2026 marks the apprenticeship’s fifth year.

The apprenticeship was created by Broadway Across America (BAA) in partnership with Building the Change (BTC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to building diversity on stage and behind the scenes. The John Gore Organization (JGO), BAA’s parent company, is the sponsor for the program. Lauren Reid, president of the JGO said, “We are proud to see the continued impact of our partnership with BTC, as alumni of the program go on to build meaningful careers across the Broadway industry, not just in New York, but across America.”

The annual BAA/BTC Regional Apprenticeship is hosted nationally in BAA’s offices in New York City, Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Cincinnati, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Louisville, Minneapolis, Ottawa, Seattle, and Salt Lake City. Atlanta has a rich theater scene with many varied internships available for college students (see Alliance Theater, Aurora Theater, Synchronicity Theater, Atlanta Shakespeare Company, and more), but the chance to connect with New York theater while working in the Peach State is rare.

T. Oliver Reid and Warren Adams, BTC co-founders, said, "Five years in, our partnership with JGO continues to create real access points for early-career professionals. We've seen firsthand how this program can help them build connections, with a national reach, and take meaningful steps toward furthering their careers in the industry.” Past apprentices have gone on to work at Disney Theatricals, Tony Award Productions, Foresight Theatrical, and more.

Despite the program’s focus on commercial theater and the touring industry, all majors are welcome to apply. The apprenticeship’s announcement on JGO’s LinkedIn stated, “We welcome applicants whose varied life experiences and perspectives can enrich the future of American theater, particularly those with a strong commitment to advancing inclusion in the arts and an interest in arts administration and/or business.” The apprenticeship website states that students in the fields of study of “arts administration, business, marketing, communications, finance, human resources, theater studies and more” are welcome to apply.

Jasenia Michel, a 2025 BAA/BTC apprentice said in a testimonial video that she was concerned her lack of theater knowledge would oust her from the running. “But it didn’t,” she said. “I’ve grown an appreciation for theater that I didn’t know that I had before.” In the aforementioned video, when asked to give advice for future apprentices, 2025 apprentice Courtney Hammonds said, “Stay curious and be a sponge. There’s going to be a lot you don’t know. You don’t have to know everything, but I guarantee you there’s going to be something that you latch onto and that you’re going to love.”

An apprenticeship is a valuable opportunity to learn, network, bolster one’s resume, and even work towards a prosperous future. According to apprenticeship.gov, students who complete an apprenticeship gain a $300,000 lifetime earning advantage over peers who do not. BAA/BTC apprentices will “gain practical experience through on-the-job learning” and “develop their job skills, broaden industry understanding and build necessary network connections to begin a professional career,” as stated on the website. Reid said, “This initiative both prepares the next generation of theater professionals and enriches our industry with fresh perspectives.”

Applications are now available online and due by Oct. 1 at 11:59 p.m.: www.broadwayacrossamerica.com/apprenticeship
