Oglethorpe University’s Delta Theta chapter of the Chi Omega Sorority held its
Fall 2021 philanthropy event on Thursday, November 11 th , to raise money for the
Make a Wish Foundation. According to the Make-A-Wish website, its mission is
to “create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses,” and every year,
in the United States, it grants over 15,600 wishes for these children.
Thursday’s event, titled “Waffles for Wishes,” was held at Oglethorpe University’s
Conant Performing Arts Center. For an admission price of $7.00, attendees had
access to all you can eat homemade waffles that were made fresh by the sisters of
Delta Theta, an over-the-top toppings bar, and unlimited hot chocolate and warm
apple cider. Attendees also had the chance to enter a raffle to win a $25 Waffle
House gift card.
The turnout was overwhelmingly successful because seventy-one people attended,
and a total of $667 was raised for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Furthermore,
100% of the money raised at “Waffles for Wishes” will be donated to Make-A-
Wish to help change the lives of children who have been diagnosed with a critical
illness.
Oglethorpe University Sophomore and Delta Theta’s Philanthropy Chair, Parker
Freeman, was the main force behind making the “Waffles for Wishes” fundraiser
happen. As Delta Theta’s Philanthropy Chair, Parker’s main role is to be the go-to-
girl for everything that has to do with Chi Omega’s Philanthropy, Make-A-Wish.
In an interview with Parker, I asked her what she thought about “Waffles for
Wishes” after the event ended, and she told me, “I think it was a fun time and a
great learning experience for our chapter and Greek life as a whole as we make our
way out of super strict COVID times.”
She went on to say, “I’m hopeful that, if we choose to do this event again in
coming years, that this year’s “Waffles for Wishes” would be a great foundation
for the event to get better and better in the future.”
