A trailer was recently released for the upcoming movie Detective Pikachu. It will be a live action Pokémon movie with Ryan Reynolds starring as the beloved character Pikachu. The movie is set to be released on May 10, 2019.
The movie’s main focus will be on Tim Goodman, the main character, as he goes on journey to find his father. Goodman teams up with a talking Pikachu, who was the former partner of his father, to achieve his mission. However, this journey will entail more than what Goodman bargained for, as the “modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side,” Pikachu and Goodman will “encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.” This according to the movie’s official website.
Throughout the trailer a large cast of well rendered Pokémon characters are shown, including Charizard, Bulbasaur, and Psyduck, that will be nostalgic to many 90’s kids.
The director of the movie, Rob Letterman, has directed many movies like of this theme such as, Monsters vs Aliens and the new Goosebumps movie. From the description of the movie and posters found in the trailer that state “missing” fans are beginning to hypothesize on what the plot may entail. One of the ideas includes Team Rocket is stealing Pokémons and having them fight in underground arenas or experimenting on them, similarly to the Disney’s Zootopia.
The movie is expected to be a hit for the 90’s generation and young children.
