Bill Cosby Sentenced to 3 to 10 Years for Sexual Assault

October 3, 2018

Bill Cosby has been sentenced to 3 to 10 years for the sexual assault of Andrea Constand. The actor formally referred to as “America’s Dad” has been facing multiple allegations of sexual assault and harassment for several years and has been convicted without bail.

The assault took place back in January 2004 when Cosby gave Constand a drink with pills that left her unable to move. A year later, Constand reported the assault, but Cosby cites the sex as consensual, and through a trial process, the suit was settled. The case was not made available to the public for ten years. The actor was allowed to go on through his life with no repercussions.

In October 2014, many women collectively came forward and reported that they all had been sexually assaulted by Cosby. Numerous women present their assaults about how Cosby had drugged them and sexually assaulted them, with reports as early as in the 1960’s.

Many of the cases exceed the 12-year statute of limitations. Constand’s previously settled suit was reopened and in December 2015, Cosby was arrested for her sexual assault.

It has been nearly three years, but on September 25, 2018, a judge has sentenced Cosby and registered Cosby as a sexually violent predator: a lifetime registry.

While many cases could not be taken against Cosby due to the statute of limitations, many previous victims stood in support of Constand and appeared at the trial. The many allegations and the process of convicting Cosby has been one of the main features in the #MeToo movement.

Cosby is being held in SCI Phoenix state prison in Collegeville, Pennsylvania.
