Elise Trouw Joins the List of Musical Protégées, Looping her Way into Fame

The Foo Fighters and Bobby Caldwell – not the first things that pop into someone’s head when they think of a successful mashup song. However, singer-songwriter, Elise Trouw, recently posted a video online of her live looping a mashup of Foo Fighters’ “Everlong” and Caldwell’s song “What You Won’t Do for Love.” The video became so popular that Trouw was invited to perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last February.

The San Diego native is only 18 years old and has already released her first full album under her own label, a musical masterpiece entitled “Unraveling,” that came out last spring. The album includes Trouw on vocals, drums, guitar, piano and bass guitar. Her music influences include Radiohead, The Police, Adele, John Mayer, Steely Dan and Tower of Power.

Listening to her album is breathtaking in itself, but watching her perform a live loop perfectly captures the true prodigy that is Elise Trouw. Her online video opens with her in what seems to be a bedroom, surrounded by instruments. Trouw first strums a few notes on a guitar, puts the piece on a loop and proceeds to loop in a tune on the bass guitar. She sits down by a piano and begins to sing the intro to Caldwell’s hit, looping in a synthesized jazz beat. Rounding out the mashup, Trouw adds a drum beat followed by some lyrics from “Everlong” and a short but powerful drum solo.

While attending high school, Trouw was selected to be a member of the Grammy Foundation’s Grammy Camp alumni band, which gave her the opportunity to perform with Sam Hunt as Club Nokia in 2016. She graduated high school a year early to further pursue her music career.

While she only just broke into the music scene, Trouw is already set to tour with the trio, Moonchild, debuting April 4th in San Diego. The tour will also include performances in Phoenix, Ariz., Denver, Colo., Boulder, Colo., Fort Collins, Colo., Aspen, Colo., Salt Lake City, Utah, and Los Angeles, Calif.
Keep an eye out for Elise Trouw’s future performances as she continues to climb the musical ladder to international fame.
